Robyn at the 30 year reunion

Robert (Robyn) Byron Brancart, age 57, of Herndon Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, February 26, 2012, with his family at his side after a courageous battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was a wise and wonderful man who was so loved by his family, friends, and professional colleagues from Virginia to Kansas to California.

Robyn was born September 19, 1954, in Pasadena, California to Robert and Dessie (Rumble) Brancart. Robyn grew up in Hutchinson, Kansas, graduating from Hutchinson High School in 1972. He received an A.A. degree from Hutchinson Community Junior College before moving to California where he received his undergraduate degree in Communications from California State University, Fullerton, and his MBA from University of Phoenix.

Since 1991, he worked as a Director of Training and Development and Consultant for Fortune 500 Companies, including Toshiba, Cable & Wireless, Nextel, Max Performance Group, GTSI, Weber Associates, and Sales Performance International. Shortly before his diagnosis, Robyn was Academic Dean for Virginia College.

Robyn was an accomplished singer, songwriter and guitarist, having played in many bands with his two brothers in many venues throughout the Midwest, and Southern California during the 1970s and early 80s. He played saxophone and piano by ear, and composed and wrote numerous songs. After moving to Southern California, he obtained his pilot’s license, an enjoyable hobby he loved. In 1991, he and wife Carrie were married in La Jolla, California, and moved to Virginia, where he has lived since 1995.

He is survived by his wife Carrie and daughter Kendall of Herndon; brothers Matt (Shelly); Victor (Delieu), and sisters Sarah Mason (Tylor) and Amy of California; brothers-in-law Tim Moore of California, and Brian Moore (Desiree) of Clifton; father-in-law Albert Moore of Vienna; and four nieces, five nephews, and many other blessed family and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Robert and Dessie Brancart; and his mother-in-law Patricia Moore.

The family wishes to express appreciation to Capital Caring of Northern Virginia, and caregiver Linda Diamond of Home Instead who made Robyn feel so comfortable since his diagnosis in February 2011.

A Memorial Service is planned for Wednesday, February 29, 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Robyn’s memory to the ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter, 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855.
